BARCODE TRANSACTIONS
The EAN code is given in Turkey by the National Commodity Numbering Center, which is affiliated with the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) . Manufacturers, importers, exporters and distributors who want to use the EAN-UCC system must apply to MMNM and become members. MMNM gives an EAN-UCC company number to companies that are members. This number belongs to that company and is used only by it. The application documents and fee information required for membership can be obtained from the National Commodity Numbering Center.
The barcode standard applied in Turkey is EAN13 and its types and features are as follows:
Country Code / Company Code / Product Code ) Check Digit
3 digits 4 digits (may vary) 5 digits (may vary) 1 digit
Example: 8699567900094
As seen in the example, the first three digits are the country code. The country code for Turkey is 869. The 4 -digit section following the country code is reserved as the company code. The company code does not have to be 4 digits. The number of digits may vary depending on the product type. This number is the number given to the manufacturer or seller companies by the National Product Numbering Center ( MMNM ). No other company can use this number.
The next 5 digits are the number given to the product by the manufacturer. The number of digits in the product code may increase or decrease depending on the product type. The manufacturer can use these five digits as desired. Only in the pharmaceutical sector, the first two numbers are determined by the Ministry of Health and indicate the packaging form of the drug (such as pills, syrup, powder). Although the 5- digit product code can be used freely by the manufacturer, the codes must be given within the framework of a rule. The last digit is the control digit. It checks whether the first 12 digits are read correctly. It is calculated from the other 12 digits.
What is a Barcode?
Barcode; It is a method used to transfer data automatically and without error to another medium, consisting of vertical lines and spaces of different thicknesses. Barcode consists of lines of different thicknesses and spaces between these lines.
With barcodes, information such as stock code, serial number, personnel code can be displayed. Entering this information into the computer via the keyboard is time-consuming and tiring. In addition, this method is not very healthy. Because there is a high probability of errors when entering data. Barcodes and barcode readers are used to reduce this error rate and the time spent.
The barcode should not contain a product code or descriptions of the product. The barcode should only contain a reference number for that product. This reference number is introduced to the computer and detailed information about the product is kept in the computer. Later, this reference number is used to access information about that product.
For example; the barcode lines on a product in a market do not contain information about the price or details of the product. It is a reference number. The product is introduced to the market's computer with this reference number. The price and other information about the product are entered into the market's computer. When information about the product is requested, the reference number is sent to the computer. The computer sends detailed information about the product. In this method, when the price of the product changes, it will be enough to change only the price on the computer.
Barcodes are printed according to rules called barcode symbology, which determine how the lines and spaces in the barcode will be printed. Barcodes can contain numbers from 0 to 9, characters in the alphabet, and some special characters (*, -, /, etc.). There are many barcode alphabets. Some of these alphabets contain only numbers, while others contain both numbers and special characters. Accordingly, different barcode standards emerge. There are many types of barcodes used in the world today. You can use the links below for barcode types.
What Can You Do With Barcodes?
Since barcode is a method that allows data to be entered quickly and accurately, it can be used in places where barcode transactions are intensive and where fast and accurate access to information is needed. Systems where this method is used are called data collection systems. All movements of a product can be tracked using barcodes. Many communication tools such as barcode readers, barcode printers and portable data terminals are used in these systems.
Data collection systems can be used in many places. They can be used in many areas and places such as stores, industrial environments, marketing and sales, workplaces, etc. For example, you can make your warehouse counts very easily and comfortably by using a barcode system.
Truth
It ensures that you get the most accurate information, eliminates user errors, and prevents confusion between similar products or products with similar codes.
Usefulness
Barcode products, i.e. readers, printers, etc. are very easy to use, connect to the computer and operate all OT/VT products. With this system, reliable, detailed and fast data is collected. With this collected information, the system can be managed more effectively.
Speed
Fast data entry has two important benefits.
1. The requested information is collected much faster and more accurately than the information collected manually.
2. Since this collected accurate information is in a computer environment, it reaches the people or environment that can process and evaluate this information very quickly. For example; assume that this information is written correctly on a piece of paper. How can you find how much of brand A detergent was sold on that piece of paper? Yes, you can count it. What do you do if at the last moment you are asked about all detergent sales instead of brand A detergent?
Cost
As accuracy increases and data entry speed increases, labor costs will decrease and the system will be more economical.
For example
How much does each product sell for?
What's currently out of stock?
How much of each product should be ordered based on past sales?
You can easily find answers to questions like these.
